A fever is defined as 100 degrees F or 37.8 degrees C or greater. Previous recommendations were to stay away from others 7 days after the onset of illness or 24 hours after resolution of symptoms. These guidelines do not apply to those working in a healthcare setting but to schools, camps, businesses and community setting where the majority of people are not at increased risk of influenza complications.
