What Is It? How Does It Work?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple, nonsurgical procedure that softens the frown lines of the forehead, between the eyebrows (glabella), and fine lines around the eyes. BOTOX® can also be used in facial contouring to elevate the eyebrows, to give the eyes a more open and brighter appearance, and to give the mouth a more youthful appearance. Small amounts of BOTOX® are inserted with a fine needle into the muscles creating these facial lines. After the treatment the muscles are relaxed, and as a result these lines soften, if not disappear altogether.  The treatment can be completed in approximately 10 minutes and patients can resume most normal activities immediately.  The effects of BOTOX® are noticeable within a few days and should be complete in 10 days. The benefits of BOTOX® last an average of 3 months. Repeat treatments every 3-4 months are recommended to maintain results. Improvement in lines is often seen with repeated treatments and many patients will require less injections (and often less units) less frequently.
