Hyaluronic Acid Fillers: Restylane / Perlane / Juvederm
Dermal fillers are used to treat facial wrinkles and to restore lost facial volume. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a naturally occuring substance in the human body that provides volume and fullness to the skin by holding on to water. The HA dermal fillers work together with the body’s own hyaluronic acid to restore volume resulting in a more youthful and healthy appearance. These fillers have been proven to be safe and effective. No skin testing is required. Dr. Terry can help you choose among the following fillers to best suit your skin type and treatment goals.

FAQS
What can I do to prepare for my dermal filler treatment?
To minimize the risk of bruising stop all medications or supplements that can cause thinning of the blood. These include: ibuprofen, aspirin, Vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, Ginko, and Fish Oil. If you have had cold sores of herpes in or near the treatment site, take an antiviral the day before the procedure and continue the medication until the area has healed. This will minimize your chances of a breakout. Dr. Terry will prescribe the antiviral if needed.
What can I expect during the treatment? Is the treatment painful?
Treatment time usually takes 30 minutes to an hour. There is some discomfort during the treatment and following. This can be minimized with topical numbing cream and ice. The mouth and chin area can also be anesthetized with a dental block. The dermal filler is injected in to the skin with a fine needle. The injected gel gives natural volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed out. The results can be seen immediately.
What are the possible side effects?
Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting. The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injections site reactions such as: redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection. More serious side effects are rare.
How do Dermal Fillers differ from BOTOX®?
HA dermal fillers provide volume and are used to treat wrinkles and folds resulting from a loss of volume beneath the surface of the skin such as perioral lines and nasolabial folds (lines around your mouth and nose). Results are seen immediately, unlike Botox which takes up to a week to see results. BOTOX® is not a filler. BOTOX® relaxes muscle activity in order to treat some types of wrinkles that are associated with repetitive muscle activity such as frowning.
What are the Benefits of HA Fillers versus other types of Dermal Fillers?
No skin testing is required for HA Fillers. HA Fillers are natural and safe products with a low incidence of adverse events, immediate and long lasting results. They are not made or derived from animals so there is no risk for transmitting diseases and minimal risk of allergic reactions. HA Fillers are versatile and can treat a variety of concerns.
How long will my results last?
Results can last up to 12 months and often longer.
